Plate and frame filter press is a mechanical device for chemical dehydration, which was first applied to chemical dehydration. Although the plate and frame filter press is generally operated intermittently, with high investment in infrastructure equipment, and low filtration capacity, it is still widely used in some sewage treatment plants due to its advantages such as high filtration driving force, high solid content of filter cake, clear filtrate, high solid recovery rate, and low consumption of conditioning drugs.

Structure of Plate and Frame Filter Press

The plate and frame filter press consists of a set of filter chambers consisting of alternately arranged filter plates and filter frames. The surface of the filter plate has grooves, and its protruding parts are used to support the filter cloth. There are through holes on the corners of the filter frame and filter plate, which form a complete channel after assembly, allowing for the passage of suspension, washing water, and the extraction of filtrate. On both sides of the board and frame, there are handles supported on the crossbeam, which are compressed by compression devices. The filter cloth between the plate and frame serves as a sealing gasket. The suspended hydraulic pressure is fed into the filter chamber by the feed pump, forming a filter residue on the filter cloth until the filter chamber is filled. The filtrate passes through the filter cloth and flows along the groove of the filter plate to the corner channel of the plate frame, and is discharged centrally. After filtration, clean the filter residue with detergent water. After washing, sometimes compressed air is introduced to remove the remaining washing solution. Subsequently, open the filter press to remove the filter residue, clean the filter cloth, re press the plate and frame, and start the next working cycle.

Compared with other solid-liquid separation technology equipment management, the mud cake filtered by the filter press has a high solid content and excellent separation control effect. The board and frame are usually square, with an inner edge length of 320-2000mm, a frame thickness of 16-80mm, and a filtering area of 1-1200 ㎡. The plate and frame are compressed using manual screws, electric screws, and hydraulic methods. The plates and frames are made of materials such as wood, cast iron, cast steel, stainless steel, polypropylene, and rubber. The fifth petrochemical plant uses polypropylene filter plates.

Due to the tight compression of the plate and frame, the mud cannot overflow. Under the high pressure of the screw pump and diaphragm pump, the water in the mud seeps out from the filter cloth and flows into the return pipe, while the mud cake remains in the cavity
